Joint size: 10mm, 14mm or 18mm
Glass joints come in three standard widths. 14mm is the most common on bongs and rigs, 18mm shows up on bigger bongs, and 10mm lives on minis and compact rigs. Not sure what you have? Compare the opening to a dime — a dime almost exactly caps a 14mm joint. A nickel roughly matches 18mm.

Gender: male or female
Joints are a pair: one slides inside the other. If your bong's joint is a female (accessory slides in), you need male accessories — and vice versa. The rule of thumb: most bongs are female (bowl slides in), most dab rigs are female too (banger slides in), but there are exceptions, which is why we list gender on every product.
Angle: 45° vs 90°
Bangers and some accessories come angled. 90° fits upright joints (most modern rigs); 45° fits angled joints (classic beakers and older rigs). Eyeball your piece: if the joint points straight up, buy 90°.
When sizes don't match: adapters
Fell in love with an 18mm ash catcher but run a 14mm bong? A drop-down or adapter converts between sizes and genders for a few dollars — they also protect your joint from heat stress.
